A Hawaiian Non-Profit (501-C)3

O'Makou Na Kaua Aina
Welcomes You
At O'Makou Na Kaua Aina, Our Mission is to provide support and community outreach to the people of the Kalaoa Makua Area, by providing a safe place where local youth, religious and other non-profit groups or organizations can meet, gather, pray, worship, teach, learn, grow and participate in agricultural and multicultural activities, gatherings and practices.

A Bit of Background
O’Makou Na Kaua Aina founders felt a calling to provide a place where community members, youth, religious and other non-profit organizations could gather, meet, teach, worship, provide services and share with one another at a truly Historically location with ties to the old Hawaiian ways and traditions. This property dates back before Hawaii was granted statehood and is part of the original Hawaiian Land “Grant 990” and former location of the Mauna Ziona Church and Kalaoa School.
The Old School structures and grounds have fallen into Dis-Repair after many years of neglect and lack of care. We will be working towards restoring the Aina and structures so they may once again be used and shared by the community and its people, with the hope of one day, this Aina will be registered as the Historical Site it is, so it may be enjoyed, by all the future generations to come.

A Bit About Us
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
This Non-Profit was founded by Native Hawaiian women from the Big Island of Hawaii, with generational ties to this Historical Aina. They have embarked on a quest to preserve, protect and restore the property, so it may benefit the community and future generations.
The founder and current President “Lei Belt-Keka” received a calling from her Great, Great, Great Grandfather (G.P. Kaonohimaka), the original grant holder and Traveling Priest for the Churches of Kakaha during the 1800’s. Her Great, Great, Great Grandfathers wish, was for the property to be used in the serve God and the community, he entrusted the property to the church upon his death, so it would continue to provide as a benefit to the community.
After the property fell into disrepair and misuse, Lei and others became committed to honoring, G.P. Kaonohimakas wish, by embarking on a journey to restore the Aina, Church and School back to its intended use for the community and God.
Lei and the others have overcome many hurdles and know many more are bound to come, in the quest to care for and restore this scarcest Aina, that is so special to her, her family and the Community.
What We Are Doing
Making A Difference

At present we are working with the DLNR to obtain a lease for the “Old Kalaoa School” in-order to gain access and secure the property, so cleanup and necessary repairs can begin.
We have already started cleaning up the Church property and have removed dozens of abandoned vehicles, rubbish and waste left behind from years of neglect and abuse. We are also tending and caring for the grounds, vegetation, foliage, overgrowth, shrubbery and trees.
Repairs and renovations to the former pastor’s residence have been underway and nearly completed. Cleanup and repairs to other structures on the property are underway.
The focus will soon shift to the “Old Kalaoa School” property and the extensive need to cleanup and make repairs, so the property can be made available for community use and a place to hold meeting, events, provide support and services to the community.

PLEASE HELP SUPPORT our efforts to restore this very important Hawaiian Historical Site and make it possible for Community members and groups to share in its use.
